Jennifer Ford - Stage Manager and social media manager
Using her love of teaching and the performing arts, that she inherited from her mother Cynthia, Jennifer helps Bluffton Youth Theatre as the stage manager,and social media manager. Her goal for each child that comes to BYT is that they will feel as though they have a family there. She strives to make sure that no cast or crew member feels as though they are "on the outs" in this theatre.
Jennifer has recently taken over the social media of Bluffton Youth Theatre. She has put together the playbills for each BYT production since Mary Poppins JR. She also designed the website and has built the following on Bluffton Youth Theatre's Facebook and Instagram pages.
Growing up, Jennifer has always been a part of the performing arts. She started dance lessons at age three and performed in her first show when she was only five. She also has been taking music lessons throughout her life and uses her musical background to continue to help the children grow in their abilities. She has been in multiple shows including, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, A Thousand Cranes, Pilgrim’s Progress and many more. Jennifer truly has a passion for Bluffton Youth Theatre and loves everyone involved. She uses whatever skills and abilities she has to help BYT continue to grow.
Christy Hale - Musical Director
Christy Hale is a local, originally from Savannah, GA, and grew up in Hilton Head, SC. She has a background in Music Education and Elementary Education. She taught music in the public school system before getting married and starting a family. She has 6 beautiful children, 5 girls and 1 boy, whom she homeschools. She has been the pianist at her church for about 10 years. She teaches music classes at a homeschool co-op and loves making music with children. She served as Music Director of BYT when it first began and is glad to be able to be helping the students grow their musical talents in the current shows.
Sharon Hiscock - Scenery Designer
Sharon Hiscock stepped into the role of Set Designer, when she helped create the Bluffton Youth Theatre float in the Bluffton Christmas Parade. Since then, she has been in charge of all the beautiful scenery you have seen in Mary Poppins Jr., Shrek the Musical Jr., Elf the Musical Jr., and Annie Jr. She has also designed our floats in the Bluffton Christmas Parades. Sharon has two children involved in BYT, Alanna and Shea, as well as two other children named Ryan and Liam. Sharon, her husband, Danny, and their children have lived in the lowcountry for five years. Ryan, Sharon’s oldest, is 19 and has recently enlisted in the Air Force. Her son Liam is 16 and a junior at May River Highschool. Shea, 15, has been a part of BYT since he played Buddy the Elf on the BYT Christmas Parade float. Since then, he has worked as our lead Sound Technician and recently performed as Oliver Warbucks in BYT's production of Annie JR. Alanna, Sharon’s youngest, started in BYT when she performed in Beauty and the Beast Jr. Since then, she has played Belle on the Christmas Parade float, Bird Lady in Mary Poppins Jr., Young Fiona in Shrek the Musical Jr. ,Darlene Lambert in Elf the Musical JR and a servant in Annie JR. Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience, the Hiscock family loves how Bluffton Youth Theatre brings their family together.
Anne-Marie Germany - Props Coordinator
Anne-Marie Germany is the mother of two Bluffton Youth Theatre actors, Anneliese and Liam Germany. Anne-Marie, her husband, Josh, and their children moved to Bluffton five years ago and absolutely love living in the lowcountry. Several years ago, when she noticed her daughter singing enthusiastically around the house and sounding beautiful doing so, Anne-Marie found a wonderful vocal instructor, Valerie McIntee, to work with Anneliese and guide her in her passion. Anne-Marie began assisting Valerie and Anneliese with the props that they used for their performances (as "Sunshine Val and Her Little Shining Star") at local assisted living and senior centers, and is now happily serving as the Props Coordinator for BYT. She enjoys volunteering with BYT as she gets to witness the evolution of each play from start to finish: new castmates becoming friends, childrens' self confidence blossoming, and hard work at rehearsals transforming into entertaining, polished productions onstage for the community to enjoy.
Lanie Nelson - Parent Liaison
Lanie grew up in Wichita, KS and has lived on HIlton Head for 25 years. She graduated from the University of South Carolina, Beaufort with a degree in Hospitality Management. Her career experience includes, restaurant and hotel management, property management, co-owning a Wine & Tapas bar with her husband, and working as a teaching assistant for private & public schools in Beaufort County. She loves being hands on and is enjoying learning all about the day to day process of making a great theatre production come together.
Crystal Wilson - Assistant to Department Heads
Crystal Wilson is a Lowcountry native who, after a few years away, has been raising a family here with her husband Kirk since 2006. Crystal devotes her time to homeschooling their 3 boys Evan (14), Luke (8), and Dylan (3). After discovering through their church Christmas plays that her oldest had a love for stage performance, Crystal and her family connected with Bluffton Youth Theatre, and the rest is history. She began volunteering where needed and fell in love with being a part of the process that allows these talented young people to shine on stage. Evan and Luke are now BYT veterans, and Crystal has been serving backstage during shows, at summer camp, and in any capacity needed during rehearsals to support Cyndy Ford’s vision for this children’s theatre.
Mary Metsker - Musical Director
Mary Metsker has had a passion for music and performance since she was a young girl. She began her journey performing dance routines for her first grade class and soon learned that Vocal performance was her passion. She filled her high school electives with Choir and Drama classes, acting as president of the girls’ choir and represented her school at multiple state solo competitions. She toured Austria and Germany with her high school choir and led performances St. Michael’s Cathedral in Mondsee Austria. In college Mary studied under the direction of Maestro Dr. Geoffrey Boers and received a minor in vocal performance, performing solo engagements in University of Washington’s Chamber performance of Bach’s B Minor Mass.
Post college she went on to sing as a soprano for 2007-2010 with the Seattle Symphony Chorale under Maestro Gerald Schwartz and Joseph Crnko.
After having her first child in 2009, Mary has spent time raising her young children to love music. She is excited to volunteer her time and enthusiasm to help instill a passion for music in Bluffton's youth.
